I just got word from Mandy that the Infectious Disease doctor and the orthopedic surgeon have reviewed the results from the tests and have determined that Chris has something called a line infection. This is basically a bacterial infection in the port line that is implanted for chemo. This infection requires a two-week antibiotic treatment and Chris cannot have surgery prior to the conclusion of that treatment. The six days that he has already been on antibiotics will count as part of the two weeks, so they are looking at surgery next week, most likely on Thursday or Friday.
Because they are now in a waiting mode, they would welcome any visitors. Please be aware, though, that Chris is on a lot of pain medication and may not be completely awake. But, Mandy thinks that visitors will perk him up (and will definitely perk her up, too).
They are in Room 616 in the Roberts Building on the Baylor campus. The Roberts Building is the tallest building in the complex.
Thank you all!
Kathie
