Update on Chris 6-22-07

Hello every one. It seems like so long since I have been able to write to you. I have been staying at the hospital everyday and night and have only come home once or twice for a quick hug from the kids and a load of laundry. A lot has happened over the last week. It has been a roller coaster of bad news and good news… things seem to change every five minutes.

As for today… A scan earlier in the week revealed a tumor has grown back in the surgery area from November. It is wrapped around the bone cement and metal plate that was put in before. They have said it is 10 cm. in size. Over the past week, this arm has had major swelling that will not go down. It is believed that the tumor is pressing on his veins, causing irregular blood flow. He has also had persistent fevers that haven’t gone away, even after a week of antibiotics. A CT Scan from yesterday revealed a collection of fluid, which could be dead tumor tissue or infection. This has prompted to doctors to schedule surgery for Saturday morning. He is scheduled to go in at 7:00 am. Of course, this could change, if they have an emergency surgery to deal with. There are several possible outcomes with this surgery, but the main goal is to drain the fluid/ infection. The surgeon will try to remove the tumor and may or may not do a partial shoulder replacement. It is likely that this will turn in to two different surgeries.

The surgery is inevitable, so Chris is happy to do it sooner than later. Hopefully, this will relieve the tremendous pain he has had over the last month. His spirits were up today, although he sleeps most of the time and is a little (okay, maybe a lot) loopy from the medication, but we are happy his pain is under control. It will be nice to not require so much pain medication after he recovers from this surgery.

PLEASE pray for Chris and our family during this surgery tomorrow. Pray that God will guide the eyes and hands of the surgeon and that Chris will have a full and complete recovery.
I have come home this evening to spend time with the kids and do some laundry. I am on my way back to the hospital tonight. THANK YOU to every one who has offered to bring meals, groceries, etc. Thanks Duff, for all the snacks at the hospital. We love you all so much and are so grateful to have you by our side.

Love,
Mandy

P.S. Since I am not able to be home, it’s hard to get out e-mails. Please remember to check the blog site for updates. Thanks! Also, his room number may get changed after surgery, so check with a front desk some where to be sure where we are and I will let you know as soon as we know. We will still be at Baylor Dallas.
