Just wanted to give a quick update… there really hasn’t been a lot of change since Wednesday. He is stable and resting a lot. His oxygen level has fluctuated between 90 and 97, ranging from 65-100 % oxygen through the tube. They have confirmed that it is spread into the right lung as well, but I haven’t seen the x-ray to see how badly. They are not sure why he hasn’t continued to improve. There may be something else they are battling, but they are trying to run some tests to isolate something to treat. They performed a procedure called a Bronchoscopy. They went down his tube to try to withdraw some of the heavy secretions. They were not able to get much out, but they got enough to run tests on. We haven’t heard any results on this, but it may take a few days to do cultures. He is still on the ventilator tube and full sedation. He is still on fluids and antibiotics. He is still communicating with us occasionally. We have shared some very special moments with him, where he has expressed his concern about his family and things that were going on at home. He has been so sweet. He seems happy to have visitors, in small doses. He has expressed that the noise sometimes bothers him and has asked us to shut the door a few times. All of this communication is through head nods, hand squeezes and a small amount of trying to write. Pretty amazing! I will post updates as I have them.
Thank you to the Duff Community Group… I can’t even talk or think about you without crying. Every time I think you’ve done so much, you do something else! All of the goodies you brought to the hospital have been such a blessing. We were so surprised! We have enjoyed offering snacks and drinks to share with other families and nurses on the floor. Thank you also for helping us replace our oven… there are no words.
Love,
Mandy
