Update on Chris Friday January 26

Chris is having much less confusion now and is able to stay awake and alert all day. He is sleeping hard at night, which is great news since that means he is back on the right sleep cycle. He is still frustrated, though, and doesn't understand why he can't leave the hospital. He feels like he would get better faster at home. But, Mandy has been able to talk to him and calm him down during these times of frustration, so that's good. Part of his frustration is because he still has not been released to eat or drink and is only allowed two ice chips every 30 minutes. The swallow test will be administered again today, and we need to pray that he passes the test because Mandy is afraid that this group will not be back over the weekend and he would have to wait until Monday to try again if he doesn't pass it today.

His physical therapy sessions are going well, and the therapists have taught him a special breathing exercise to help him strengthen his lungs. He is getting stronger every day. In fact, he is now able to hold the remote and has control over the TV in his room! Great progress!! The plan for today is for the physical therapy strength team to help Chris get into a wheel chair and if he can sit up on his own, then he might be able to get a shower. Mandy thinks that would make a world of difference in his attitude. So, we need to pray for that to happen today, too.

One last prayer request that she mentioned is that the kids are coming back up to the hospital today at 4:30 and will spend some time with him. She wants us to pray that all goes well with this visit.

Mandy will not be going up to the hospital at all tomorrow. She has worked out a schedule for some of the guys to take shifts tomorrow to spend some alone time with Chris. She feels that this break in the routine might help him and will also allow him to have some "guy" time. She would like to limit these visits to men only for now because she is concerned about Chris being embarassed and she wants him to be able to keep his dignity. At this time, she feels that he would be uncomfortable around women who are non-family members. She said that she will be contacting other guys to take some shifts if they want to and are available.

Anyway, that's the latest information from the Baylor front.

Thank you so much for your prayers for them.
