Update on Chris 1-26-07
Today was a good day for Chris. He finally was released to eat and drink! He passed a swallow test and they were also able to take out his feeding tube. He will start out slow with liquids and work his way to whatever he wants. He was physically improving in many areas today, just not quite as fast as he would like. I am amazed to see the little bit more that he can do each new day. He has come so far. I think he is kinda going through a grieving process… denial first, then sadness over the loss of a month of his life and the use of his body. I think the determination to get through this will kick in soon. He knows he is a miracle. We got to meet with his doctor today for the first time since that Wednesday that we got the bad news. Dr. Berryman spent a lot of time comforting him and making him understand what has happened in the last four weeks. It mostly had already been said, but Chris needed to hear it form his doctor. Dr. Berryman used the word “miraculous” when he described Chris’ turnaround. He does consider this a setback in the treatment of the cancer, but will have a plan to keep going on fighting this. He just can’t give Chris any chemo until his body is strong enough to handle it. I am sure we will be talking with him more soon. This was a very special time for Chris and I to spend time with his doctor. Chris worked with physical therapy today, and although he is showing some improvements, he is still unable to support himself sitting up, so he is not ready to stand yet. He makes new improvements every day though. Every day, he is a little stronger. He was so excite to drink and eat a little today. That was such a blessing!
I am spending the day with the kids on Saturday and Chris has some of his guy friends coming to spend time with him through out the day. Please continue to pray for Chris’ continued recovery and particularly for his thoughts, or peace in his mind.
I love you all,
Mandy
P.S. If you have brought a meal and left dishes, we may not know who they belong to, so please feel free to stop by and pick them up if you are in the area. I have them all in a pile in our front room. Thank you!
